Thing 14: Tools

The potential of all the tools listed is astounding! I didn’t actually create anything but my 11 year old son has a website on Weebly. He draws comics and posts them on his own website. His friends go to the website to read his comic strip which is about being a 5th grader. Other tools I liked were SketchCast which enables the user to sketch while talking. It looked complicated but I’m definitely going to try it when I have the time. Quizlet is a way to make flash cards or a study guide that anyone can use. I like the idea of student generated study materials. Everyone should have to contribute to it kind of like the scribe blog. Mnemograph looks like an awesome way to create a time line with photos. It would be great to find photos in the Library of Congress or Smithsonian museums and use them to make a time line of historical events. Gliffy is a tool I could see using to reinforce the organization of information and ideas around an essential question. The concept map can keep growing. If students worked in small groups they can continually add to the concept map, linking it perhaps to the time line, and to the study materials. I feel a wiki coming on!

Excellent ideas for the use of Gliffy in the classroom! Let me know if you find the students really responding to one!
